The eyeblaster is the clumsy, pushy, unwanted approach from an aggressive beggar or chugger that is met instinctively with caution and the urge to avoid eye contact at all cost.

By comparison, the engagement advertising is a friendly, entertaining chat with a friend-of-a-friend that is willingly initiated by the user. Common sense dictates which one you would be more likely to want to continue a conversation with.
